Social Complexity: Can It Be Analyzed and Modelled?
نویسنده
چکیده
A s many biological and social systems consist of a large number of interacting constituents and show complex emergent and self-organized properties in structure, function, and response, one might ask whether their complexity is in the number of key elements. The answer is "No" since for example from biology we have learned that humans have 46 chromosomes, while the potato we eat has 48 and the cotton we wear has 52 or in other terms a roundworm (C. elegans) has nearly 20 000 and a mustard family plant (Arabidobsis) of about 27000 while humans have 23000 protein coding genes. On the other hand from sociology we have learned that the world with nearly seven billion inhabitants is a small world after all, since every one is separated on average by six steps from the others. So rather than having it in number it is the connectivities and their nature that matter and thus these systems could be viewed as some sort of communication systems with many non-identical elements linked with diverse interactions. Hence they could be envisaged as networks.

An Algorithm to Compute the Complexity of a Static Production Planning (RESEARCH NOTE)
Complexity is one of the most important issues of any production planning. The increase in complexity of production planning can cause inconsistency between a production plan and an actual outcome. The complexity generally can be divided in two categories, the static complexity and the dynamic complexity, which can be computed using the ant ropy formula. The formula considers the probability of...
متن کاملDepiction of the Future: Intervention Strategy in Social Systems
Regarding the complexity of social systems and the presence of autonomousintervenes, designing and making the future requires a special strategy, which can harmonize these elements with itself. This can be possible by future depicting, which makes an insight into the desired fUture, and presents a real perspective of it; and/or it promotes a planned perception of the desired status to impose a...

Abstract With the rapid growth of population and urbanization since the last century, the complexity and understanding of the spatial organization of the city, as well as the ability to predict urban events in its spaces, have become difficult and in some cases impossible. Karaj metropolis is one of the major metropolitan areas of Iran that has been experiencing rapid population growth and thi...
